Super Bowl 58 has been concluded with another championship being claimed 25-22 by Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in their hard-fought victory over the San Francisco 49rs. Predicted correctly by 73% percent of Tarleton students in our Super Bowl survey.

While the 49rs were dominant in the first half heading into halftime with a 10-3 lead over the reigning champs, in the last minute of the second quarter the Chiefs kicked a field goal to at least get on the board before the very important second half of the game where they would receive the ball.

Mahomes made his statement opening the second half of the game with ten points in the third quarter to be up 10-13. Six more points would be added in the fourth quarter to tie the game.

Mahomes had many rushing yards on fourth downs to get his team closer to scoring in overtime before throwing the game-winning touchdown to a wide-open Mecole Hardman, Jr. who
previously in the season was playing for the New York Jets.

To add to the dynasty that the Chiefs have been trailblazing in the last six years, Kansas City has become the eight team to defend the previous year's title and win back-to-back Super Bowls. This was the second Super Bowl ever to go into overtime with both teams kicking field goals to  have 19 at the end of regulation.

The Chiefs simultaneously become the 27th team in NFL history to win the coin toss and win the game.

Per usual in a huge event like the Super Bowl, there were a multitude of commercials and “meme-able” moments from Taylor Swift being shown throughout the game, Travis Kelce yelling at his coach, and all the celebrity appearances. The halftime show was headlined by Usher who was accompanied by guest performances with Alicia Keys and Ludacris.
