Are your muscles sore? Does your back ache? Are you stressed out? Do you suffer from migraines or depression? Here’s a possible solution to all those problems you may not have considered – massage.
This week on “Life Vibes” I sat down with Amber Peterson, owner of Zen Spa in Stephenville, Texas to discuss the widespread health benefits of massage therapy. Peterson has been a massage therapist for 15 years, receiving her massage license from Wellness Skills in Dallas, Texas. She is also a certified massage instructor and practices many types of massage including:
- Hot Stone – heated, smooth stones placed on the body to loosen tight muscles and align energy centers in the body
- Deep Tissue – targets the deeper layers of the muscles
- Swedish – gentle and relaxing, a great option for someone who has never received a massage before
- Ashiatsu – oriental bar therapy foot massage
Massage therapy is a technique used by skilled professionals to treat physical ailments, internal discomforts and even emotional issues. The benefits of massage are not limited to sore muscles and back pain, but also a great way to reduce stress, migraines and even ease depression & anxiety.
“When I first started, massage wasn’t even considered a health care alternative. Chiropractors didn’t even really believe we could do much good, and now it’s hard to find a chiropractor without a massage therapist,” said Peterson.
Peterson opened Zen Spa this past February offering a variety of massage options, manicures/pedicures, body waxing, custom spray tanning, and skin care treatments.
Massage therapy has become more popular over the years, and many people are now seeking this treatment as a way to relax and alleviate pain. Some of the lesser-known health benefits of massage include improving circulation, reducing cellulite, detoxing the body and treating insomnia.
According to a recent article from the Mayo Clinic, “Massage is no longer available only through luxury spas and upscale health clubs. Today, massage therapy is offered in businesses, clinics, hospitals and even airports.”
Massage therapy is becoming a vital part of healthy living, a great way to pamper yourself, but also a take-charge approach to your overall wellness.
From my own experience, a good massage has been a great way to relax and relieve stress. I always feel so much better and believe that massage can benefit everyone.
