Perry Elliott is running for City Council, Place 4.
What is your current occupation?
Banker for over 50 years, retired in 2008.
If applicable, what positions on council have you held before?
I served on the Stephenville city council in 2001- 2004. I now serve on the Board of Adjustment.
What motivated you to be involved in city government?
I believe that Stephenville is a wonderful place to live and raise a family and I want to see it continue to grow and progress in ways that are beneficial to all the citizens of the community. I feel that my prior business background and city government experience can help.
What qualifies you to hold this position?
I served on the Stephenville city council from 2001- 2004, served as President and CEO of Farmers Bank (which is now Bank of America) and President and CEO of Stephenville Bank and Trust (which is now First Financial Bank) and continue to serve as an advisory board member of one of the local banks. I have been involved in budgeting, economics and management of personnel throughout my career and understand the need for careful planning and effective use of funds.. especially when they involve taxes paid by the residents of this community. I have been involved in economic development, Tarleton athletics, community projects and Graham Street Church of Christ during the years I have lived in Stephenville. I presently serve on a number of boards and advisory boards in Stephenville and at Tarleton State University.
What are your goals upon being elected?
I am not running with a slate of candidates and do not have a pre-conceived political agenda. You can see from the way this council election is going with all the letter writing, Facebook, bickering and side-taking etc. etc. This council needs some help. I feel with my prior business background and city government experience I could help add respect and common courtesy to the council and we could start working for Stephenville.
Why would /should a Stephenville resident want to vote for you?
I was in the banking business for over 50 years. If you survive 50 years in the loan business you had to make the hard decisions in dealing with friends and good bank customers and I was able to do that. I believe my background in banking and city government experience can help.
As a more personal question, what do you find yourself doing in your spare time?
Monday–play golf. Tuesday–play golf. Wednesday–play golf. Thursday–play golf. Friday–play golf. Take off Saturday and Sunday.
