Cyler Frost, congressperson for the college of graduate studies, is bringing Resolution J-19 to SGA next Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. in the nursing building. This resolution moves to make Texan News Servicethe official student news outlet of Tarleton State University, not the official student newspaper.
Texan News Servicebrought this idea to Frost when the staff recognized that they were not receiving the recognition that the JTAC, the official student newspaper, does from the university. Because the JTAC is the official student newspaper, they can get information from the administration and work closely with the school to get information. Texan News Servicedoes not have the same opportunities.
Texan News Service has provided the students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents of students, and those in Erath County with news about what is happening on the Stephenville campus, in the city, and across the Cross Timbers region. It has done so through its monthly newspaper, digital website, daily television broadcasts, daily radio spots, and semiannual magazine.
Texan News Service is also striving to branch out to become the voice of all students, faculty, and staff for all college campuses in the Cross Timbers region. This includes working to include stories about Ranger College, Cisco College, and Weatherford College.
Texan News Service strives to keep its audience informed through factual, timely stories about subjects that matter to them. We are not attempting to take the JTAC’s title as official student newspaper. We are trying to obtain our own title. We respect the tradition that the JTAC represents. We hope to start a new tradition of making Texan News Service the official news outlet of Tarleton State University.
