E.J. Speed will play for the Indianapolis Colts in the 2019 football season. According to the official website of the Colts, Speed will be one of six linebackers on the Colts 53-man roster.
According to ESPN.com, Speed was drafted by the Colts with the 164th pick, becoming the 5th Tarleton Texan ever drafted. While at Tarleton State, Speed recorded a total of 231 tackles, 36 tackles for a loss, 11.5 sacks and 3 interceptions in his 35 games played.
The Colt’s used two of their seven picks on linebackers, which is a tell-tale sign that they are trying to add depth at the position. Depth is what they got in the 6 feet 3 inches, 224-pound Texan. Speed, 24 years old, will back up Darius Leonard.
It remains to be seen how much time Speed will get on the field, but in the time he does get, Speed will surely show what he can do. In the 2019 preseason, Speed’s 20 tackles led the Colts.
The Colts play their first regular season game on September 8th versus the Los Angeles Chargers.
