Stephenville claims district 7-3A title
The Stephenville Yellow Jackets won the district 7-3A championship Friday night after crushing the Hillsboro Eagles on their home turf, 63-13. Stephenville made their intentions clear from the beginning, scoring forty-two unanswered points. Stephenville also scored on nine of their first ten possessions. The only drive they didn’t score a touchdown on was their last, when they were running out the clock. Hillsboro, at half, had negative twelve yards and did not get on the scoreboard until the third quarter when sophomore Deontre Richardson had a seventy-four yard dash for a touchdown.
Stephenville senior quarterback Tyler Jones was 9-16 for 156 yards and four touchdowns. He connected with Alex Sanchez for two scores, and B.J. Walker and Brock Morrison also had touchdown receptions. Senior Chase Varnado also created havoc on the defensive side for Stephenville, logging two sacks on Hillsboro’s first six snaps.
Stephenville finishes the year 8-1 and 4-0 in district. They have a bye this week, but will play Burnet, the biggest school in 8-3A, in the first round of the Texas high school playoffs. The location of that game is yet to be decided.
