Tarleton freshman killed in single-vehicle accident
By Bethany Kyle —
Michael McLearen, a member of Tarleton’s freshman class, died early Sunday morning in a single-vehicle accident.
The crash happened 4.5 miles outside of De Leon on CR 435 at 2:15 a.m. on Sunday morning, according to the accident report. The vehicle was traveling at an unsafe speed and lost control when it went over a large dip in the road, struck an embankment and rolled onto the left side and top of the truck in a ditch. Unfortunately, truck accidents are all too common in today’s society so if you, or someone you know, has been involved in an accident, contact a lawyer to see if you’re entitled to some compensation.
The driver, Zachary Ryon, 17, and another passenger, Haley Johnson, 18, were uninjured in the accident. None of the vehicle’s passengers were wearing seatbelts. If you’re been injured in a truck accident then it’s likely that you’ll want to seek out advice from a truck accident lawyer.
McLearen was an engineering technology major at Tarleton. He was originally from De Leon, Texas, where was involved in athletics in high school, playing basketball, football, and baseball, according to the Nowlan Anders Funeral Home website.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of De Leon.
An email to the student body from Tarleton encourages any students grieving the loss of McLearen to contact the Student Counseling Center.
