Tarleton sees rise in reported sexual assaults

Looking at the new Clery Act released today, you can see the rise in sexual assaults that have happened on campus. I called Chief Alvin Allcon as soon as I saw the numbers. The report shows that there has been nine reported assaults, when asked if this number was due to the increase in the number of assaults or whether people are more comfortable with reporting sexual assault, Allcon had this to say “I think people are more willing to report sexual assaults.” He also stated that some of the student activities and organizations such as Duck Camp and the TTM’s are bringing more attention to the issue through their training. The numbers in 2012 there was one incident and in 2013 that number has risen to 9.
