Texan charged with killing wife dies after jump
ALLEN, Texas (AP) — Police say a Dallas-area man free on bond after being charged with killing his wife has died after apparently jumping from a highway overpass.
Police say the body of 42-year-old Eric Merz of McKinney was located Sunday afternoon at the base of a highway exchange in Allen. Police say the preliminary investigation indicates Merz took his own life.
Merz was charged with murder in the March 6 fatal shooting of his wife, Mary Beth, at their home. McKinney police arrested Eric Merz after finding him injured in the residence and two guns nearby.
Merz was free on bond $150,000 but was required to wear an ankle bracelet for monitoring by law enforcement.
