The owner of The Ville Towing and Recovery, Susan Skipworth, surrendered to Erath County Jail on Monday Sept. 11 after on-going investigation into the business.
She surrendered to police custody after a vehicle towing violation warrant was issued for her. Skipworth’s mugshot was soon put out to the public after she was charged with a Class B misdemeanor for violating city towing regulations.
After Skipworth’s surrender, Stephenville PD put out a statement addressing the situation.
“Over the course of the last few months, the Department has conducted an investigation into The Ville and the state regulations regarding their towing business. With the assistance of the Erath County Attorney’s office a warrant for vehicle towing violation was issued for the business owner Susan Skipworth,” the statement said.
Skipworth was then released from Erath County Jail that same day after putting up a $500 bond. Soon after her arrest, the company lost its business operations rights in Stephenville.
According to media reports, the investigation started after months of complaints being made to city officials over the way the business was practicing their operations.
Once the police started to investigate the claims, they soon found out that Skipworth managed at least two properties that her business The Ville was towing vehicles from.
Lt. Jeremy Lanier spoke with Beneath the Surface News about this violation of the law.
“As a tow truck operator, she is prohibited from receiving money for towing from the properties that she manages,” Lt. Lanier said.
According to Lt. Lanier, the city revoked The Ville Towing and Recovery’s certificate for non-consent towing and has been officially removed from Stephenville’s towing rotation.
