New restaurant Adobo Cantina, by Chef Aarón Sánchez opened on Sept. 12, in the Dining Hall at Tarleton State University.

It’s easy to spot, with its large sign and colorfully painted mural and is the first thing you see on the right side of the Dining Hall when you enter.

Sánchez is originally from El Paso, Texas and has appeared as a judge on “MasterChef” and starred in other Food Network shows including “Chopped.” His reputation precedes itself and he hopes to bring unique flavors to Tarleton.

“Stephenville is at the heart of Texas, and it embodies everything that makes this state special. Our goal is to channel that same energy through our food, giving Tarleton State students and faculty another reason to love Stephenville and our wonderful state,” Sánchez said in an article posted by the Tarleton Marketing and Communications Department.

The new station offers students authentic Mexican-inspired foods and a good variety to the mix of dining choices. After trying the food myself, I would have to argue it’s one of the better if not the best options available in the Dining Hall.

The beverages stationed adjacent to the food are also a nice touch (the mango lemonade was a personal favorite).

Other students who’ve tried the food have shared the same opinion as my own.

“It was very good, they had shrimp tacos with rice and beans today. Everything tasted fresh and I’m looking forward to trying some of the other stuff they have,” Tarleton junior Parker Curtis said.

Overall, Tarleton’s latest culinary development is refreshing. If you like Mexican food or Tex-Mex in general, this place doesn’t disappoint.

The food provides a unique chance to experience fresh chef-inspired flavors--I encourage you all to try it.

The newest addition to the Dining Hall will be open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4:30 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday.
