The Executive Team

 

Haeley Carpenter is the Editor-in-Chief for the Texan News Service.

Major: Agricultural Communication, Minors in both Communication Studies and Business.

Where I'm from: Leander, Texas

Classification: Senior

Why I joined: Mr. Lewter believed in me and made me believe in myself. I wanted to try new things and there were so many opportunities here that it was a no brainer.

What I'm most excited about: Seeing all the exciting ideas come to life and traveling to conferences.

 

 

 

Mackenzie Johnson is the Managing Editor for the Texan News Service.

Major: Agricultural Communication, Minor in Communication Studies

Where I'm from: Milan, Tennessee

Classification: Senior

Why I joined: I have always known I wanted to be a writer, and joining the TNS as an MMJ seemed like the step I needed to take in order to reach that.

What I'm most excited about: Learning more and more about the ins and outs of journalism and leading a news staff. 

 

 

 

Ashtyn Hansard is the Digital Media Director for the Texan News Service.

Major: English with a concentration in Creative Writing

Where I'm from: Hamilton, Texas

Classification: Junior

Why I joined: The experience of working with other students while creating my own stories.

What I'm most excited about: Seeing how the TNS expands and evolves over the semester and seeing how my colleagues get inspired.

 

 

 

Reese Keeling is the Marketing Director for the Texan News Service.

Major: Sports Communication

Where I'm from: Leander, Texas

Classification: Senior

Why I joined: I joined because I feel like Mr. Lewter made me feel like this was a place of belonging, it was very welcoming. It was a space where I could come in and do what I love.

What I'm most excited about: To help lead this team to greatness and for all of our new opportunities.

Caroline Crain is the News Editor for the Texan News Service.

Major: Journalism & Broadcast

Where I'm from: Gorman, Texas

Classification: Junior

Why I joined: I joined the TNS to get more experience with working in journalism and to learn new things about my field. I hope to grow not only as a writer but with technology and other helpful skills.

What I'm most excited about: I’m excited to see the different points of view of events on campus through the work that I do! I’m also very excited to grow within the TNS family.

 

 

 

Gavin Patrick is the Sports Editor for the Texan News Service.

Major: Sports Communication

Where I'm from: San Antonio, Texas

Classification: Sophomore

Why I joined: I joined TNS to showcase and mature my journalistic abilities, and specifically to gain an understanding of the sports media world. I’ll only get out what I put into my job, and I’m excited to keep grinding. 

What I'm most excited about: I’m excited to interview players, coaches and other standout individuals in a conversational manner, making them comfortable enough to open up in a way that’s easy to translate to my readers. 

 

 

 

Colton Bradberry is the Opinion Editor for the Texan News Service.

Major: Journalism & Broadcasting

Where I'm from: Dublin, Texas

Classification: Senior

Why I joined: After I graduate I want to pursue a career in news media. This is a great way to gain experience and have a understanding of way things work before I leave college. 

What I'm most excited about: This is my second semester at the TNS. I'm excited to use my experience from last semester to grow and write better stories. 

 

 

 

Broadcast

Brenna  Dempsey is the Executive Producer for the Texan News Service.

Major: Journalism & Broadcasting, Minor in Film Production

Where I'm from: Walnut Springs, Texas

Classification: Junior

Why I joined: I joined to find out if I was going to like this field and what I do not. I expect to build up my skills and my resume.

What I'm most excited about: Being part of the post production work is something I've really liked and I am nervous but excited to be working on the broadcast.

 

 

 

Drew Fleming is the Associate Producer for the Texan News Service.

Major: Agricultural Communications

Where I'm from: Red Oak, Tennessee

Classification: Junior

Why I joined: I joined because I want a career in journalism and think TNS is a great way to get experience in news writing. 

What I'm most excited about: I’m excited to give more time to TNS and work on getting more into my stories. 

 

 

 

Marketing 

 

Helena Knutson is the Marketing Executive for the Texan News Service.

Major: Journalism & Broadcasting, Minor in Marketing

Where I'm from: Hamilton, Texas

Classification: Sophomore

Why I joined: I wanted more experience with news writing & broadcast.

What I'm most excited about: The podcast!!!!!!!!!! I am also very excited about my new marketing position.

 

 

 

Podcast

Lindsey Hughes is the Art Director for the Texan News Service.

Major: Journalism & Broadcasting

Where I'm from: Oak Point, Texas

Classification: Sophomore

Why I joined: I enjoy writing and that TNS is more than just a print newspaper.

What I'm most excited about: I'm excited to meet new people and learn new skills as a journalist.

 

 

 

Andrew Utterback is the Podcast Producer for the Texan News Service.

Major: Journalism & Broadcasting

Where I'm from: Arlington, Texas

Classification: Sophomore

Why I joined: I joined the TNS to share my love of journalism and writing with the Tarleton student body. 

What I'm most excited about: This semester, I'm most excited about growing our new pop culture podcast: "The Purple Popcast"

 

 

 

Multimedia Journalists

Annabeth Johnson is a Multimedia Journalist for the Texan News Service.

Major: Agriculture Communications

Where I'm from: Forestburg, Texas

Classification: Junior

Why I joined: To build a portfolio of published articles and to grow in the journalism environment.

What I'm most excited about: Improving my writing skills and gain professional experience in the newspaper industry.

 

 

 

Bethany Kilpatrick is a Multimedia Journalist for the Texan News Service.

Major: Agriculture Communications

Where I'm from: Tenaha, Texas

Classification: Freshman

Why I joined: I joined TNS because I have always enjoyed writing articles, and I am unsure of what career pathway I want to pursue at the time. Mr.Lewter thought that me joining would broaden my horizons in journalism and broadcasting, and I thought it was a great idea as well.

What I'm most excited about: To keep exploring and find more groups and organizations that do not receive much publicity. 

 

 

 

Brooklyn McKinney is a Multimedia Journalist for the Texan News Service.

Major: Journalism & Broadcasting

Where I'm from: Joshua, Texas

Classification: Junior

Why I joined: I joined TNS because I love to write and wanted the opportunity to meet new people. I expected to grow my skills as a journalist and it has definitely surpassed those expectations!

What I'm most excited about: I am always excited about getting the opportunity to write more articles for the paper and the website! This year I am looking forward to trying new things like maybe getting more involved in broadcasting or even the podcast.
