Jordyn Carson is a senior at Tarleton State University. She is a member of the Texan Stars dance team, the Delta Zeta sorority, a student in communications and just recently won homecoming queen.

“As an athlete my grades are monitored and my attendance is monitored,” Carson said. “It’s not a free for all in college and it feels like more of a job in my eyes.”

Being a student athlete comes with more responsibilities and longer days. Carson walked us through her day as a fulltime student on top of her other organizations.

“Most days start off pretty early and we do runs and conditioning in the morning,” Carson said. “After that I eat breakfast and go to practice and followed by that are my three in person classes so I spend most of my day on campus in class.”

On top of classes and dance practice, Carson also does a good job at keeping her social life active and is a very well known and positive face on campus.

“I like to go and work out at hotworx and I have an addiction to tanning so I like to go tan,” Carson said. “Both of my roommates are on the volleyball team so I spend a lot of time hanging out with them.”

Being a student athlete also comes with having good academic standings and focusing in on school a lot more than other people. Finding a career is also an important part and finding what you love the most.

“I’m a communications major,” Carson said. “I plan to do social media or some sort of event planning with that once I graduate and I think being a communications major has helped me as a student athlete because I’m not pounding to the book all the time.”

Carson has not just made a legacy on Tarleton through all of her organizations but just recently gained a new title here at Tarleton.

“I still don’t believe that I was actually crowned homecoming queen and the whole day was a whirlwind for me,” Carson said. “I had homecoming parade, tailgate, a volleyball game, had to dance at the football game for the first two quarters and then next thing you know I’m in the president’s box in my formal dress.”

Carson won 2023 homecoming queen along side her king, Isaiah Laque.
