Tarleton State University hosted their annual family weekend from Sept. 22-23.

This is an annual event that Tarleton hosts every fall semester to let the families of students come and experience college life. Parents and grandparents come to campus and see how their college students are thriving here in Stephenville.

Family Weekend also gives parents and family the chance to come experience a home football game right here at Tarleton Memorial Stadium.

Tarleton football won the family weekend game 27-13 to Southwest Baptist. Tarleton also saw 22,251 record fans attend the family weekend football game. Tarleton is now ranked number four nationally in attendance out of 128 FCS programs according to Tarleton athletics

This Family Weekend was particularly special because Tarleton hosted the annual ring ceremony. The ring ceremony gives seniors the chance to receive their class ring from President Dr. Hurley.

Mia Valdez is a senior and received her class ring at the ring ceremony.

“Getting my class ring was a moment I had been waiting for since I got to Tarleton. I can’t believe the time is here and I am so bittersweet about graduating soon,” Valdez said.

Ashley Carter’s family came to see her for her ring ceremony. Carter is a senior and this was also her last Family Weekend. Ashley said that family weekend is a memory she’ll always carry with her as these were the best three years of her life.

“Family Weekend is always fun and a great way for my parents to come visit. We had such a fun time and loved getting to see all the fun activities we have on campus.” Carter said.

Family Weekend is also filled with fun activities. One such activity is after the ring ceremony, when Purple Poo of Tarleton goes around and signs the backs of people’s hands if they got their class ring.

Grace Rempe is a senior and received her class ring and got to participate in some of the Family Weekend activities.

“My favorite activity was getting my hand signed by the Purple Poo. I was also really excited to receive my class ring because my grandparents who helped pay for my ring got to be there to witness it as well,” Rempe said.
