Tarleton State University adds e-scooters to the campus as an additional option for students to travel around campus.

Last year, a transportation survey was conducted by the Division of Student Affairs and Student Government Association (SGA).

SGA wanted to add shuttles to campus whereas Student Affairs wanted e-scooter. The purpose of this survey was to help determine what students preferred.

“We value your insights and encourage you to share your thoughts on two surveys about Stephenville campus transportation,” Survey said.

Nakia Dunn is a senior at Tarleton. Dunn has been riding her own scooter to campus for two years.

When she heard the news of the new scooters she thought it was a great addition to campus and was excited to use them. Dunn describes her first time using the scooters.

“I really wanted to use them but the QR code sent me a phone call,” Dunn said. “The instructions didn’t make sense.”

On the e-scooters there is a QR code on the top. The user is supposed to download an app to access the bike. If someone tried scanning the QR Code without the app it will take you directly to a phone call and tell you to try again.

Zinya Ward is a senior at Tarleton. Ward said that she was excited to try the scooters. She tried the scooters with her friends before the first home game.

“Honestly they go a lot faster than you expect,” Ward said.

Ward also had a hard time figuring out the instructions as well. After struggling, her friends eventually figured out how to use it. She said the company needs a better way to display their instructions.

Amare Carth is a freshman at Tarleton State University.Carth is not interested in riding the new e-scooters. Instead, he said he would rather spend his money and time on other things he prioritizes.

“So, it makes it difficult for me to buy a scooter like that when I know I can walk,” Carth said.

However Carth does believe, if a student didn’t have a car it would be a positive experience for them to use the e-scooter to transport them to classes.
