Tarleton State University seniors reflect on their favorite Tarleton traditions.

Joshua Killian is a senior at Tarleton who enjoyed participating in Pointe Du Hoc within the Corps of Cadets.

This event includes the Corps of Cadets, band, cheerleaders, football team and Tarleton officials. They come together to host a pep rally for the football team before their home games.

Killian enjoys how energetic this event is. Specifically his favorite part is how all the organizations work together to cheer on the football team.

He describes feeling the positive energy being passed from group to group.

“Our voices shake the windows of the Honors building,” Killian said.

Additionally, Killian said he enjoyed in his underclassman years, the speeches former Corps of Cadets Instructor would give, LTC Evans.

Zemoni Hopkins is a senior at Tarleton and her favorite tradition is watching the cannon fire at football games.

At every Tarleton home game, the Corps of Cadets cannon detail fires the cannon for every touchdown scored.

Hopkins says she likes this tradition because it hypes up the crowd and it is entertaining watching everyone’s reaction.

“It’s funny watching the visitors try to quickly cover their ears before it blows,” Hopkins said.

Jackie Barry is a senior at Tarleton who enjoyed participating in the homecoming bonfire.

During homecoming, the Plowboys, a student organization on campus, builds a massive bonfire during the week of homecoming.

This year the bonfire was the biggest one Tarleton has ever held.

Barry said she attended the bonfire every year and her favorite year was her senior year.

As a graduating senior, she was able to enjoy one of Tarleton’s significant events with her closest friends.

“I am going to miss times like this once we graduate,” Barry said.
