Texans ended Homecoming with a win against Morehead State 42- 0 on Oct. 21. This brings Tarleton State University football to 5-3 for the 2023 season.
The Texans got the ball on the game’s first drive, running only eight plays for a total of 75 yards. In just three minutes and fifty-one seconds, Kayvon Britten rushed the ball 22 yards for a touchdown, bringing the score to 6-0. The kicker Adrian Guzman kicked a successful field goal making the score 7-0.
After neither side scored again for the remainder of the first quarter, the Texans began another scoring drive in the second quarter, this time with a 50-yard throw to Darius Cooper, with a deep ball down the middle of the field from Victor Gabalis, bringing the score to 14-0..
The Texans managed to score twice more before the half ended, bringing the halftime score to 28-0.
The band’s amazing performance during halftime made for an exciting show.
Isaiah Laque and Jordyn Carson were crowned the 2023 Homecoming King and Queen.
After halftime, it was time to finish the game with the Eagles taking the field and the Texans followed behind. With the third quarter starting the Texans kicked the ball to the Eagles, after multiple punts back and forth, the Texans gained possession of the ball with 10 minutes left.
The Texans marched down the field with Derrel Kelley III completing a 18 yard pass by Victor Gabails, making the score 35-0.
The Texans later managed safety.
“While later kicker/punter Adrian Guzman managed to pin the Eagles at the 1-yard line, but officials disagreed and the third frame ended with Tarleton ahead 35-0,” Tarleton Sports reported.
Even though the Texans knew the game had already been won going into the fourth quarter, they continued to play with determination as Caleb Lewis rushed the ball for another touchdown.
Tarleton has won their last three homecoming games in a row, as the Texans won this crucial game 42-0 and kept Morehead State from scoring.
Tarleton made great strides, with the Texans going into the fourth quarter with no score from Morehead State.
“Caleb Lewis powered his way into an 18-yard touchdown, being the fifth Tarleton running back of the night to score a touchdown,” Tarleton Sports said, “The Texans had three different sacks on the entire night by Ahmir Crowder, Josh Griffs and O’tay Baker.”
As the season draws to a close, the Texans are eager to see what else they can do.
The Texans hit the road again against Central Arkansas on Oct. 28, at 4 p.m.
