A guide to studying for finals

This article is from the November edition of the Texan News Service.

The semester is quickly ending, and the end of the semester means finals.

It is no secret that we as students have important exams. We want to perform well so we often end up studying unless a student is somehow just lucky enough to never need to study.

But often different people have different study habits and different ways that they prefer to study. For instance, some people like to study in absolute silence and just scan their notes while some people prefer to study using flashcards.

Sophomore business major, Carly Johnson, likes to use flashcards in order to study.

“For tests and quizzes, I prefer to study using flashcards because I feel like that’s how I best remember things,” Johnson said.

Quizzing herself using flashcards helps her to better remember the information.

“When I see a question and I constantly flip the flashcards over and try to retain information, that’s when I better understand things,” Johnson said.

Other students prefer to study using study guides and websites such as Quizlet.

“Personally, I prefer to use Quizlet and go over study guides while listening to music,” sophomore music education major Delaney Davis said.

While some students may find it difficult to study and retain the information while listening to music it is the exact opposite for Davis.

“I’ve noticed that when I listen to music while I study it helps my brain to relax and I retain the information better,” Davis said.

Or maybe you’re like me who must have different types of study habits. For instance, I like to make study guides and take practice tests on Quizlet as well as making myself flashcards with the different material written on them. I also can’t focus with lots of noise, so I must study in quiet environments.

While studying can be stressful it can be made easier when we find good habits and figure out what works best for us as individuals.

There’s no right or wrong way to study because what works for one person may not work for everyone else.

Finals begin at Tarleton on Dec. 7 and end Dec. 13.
