The Texan News Service (TNS) traveled to Atlanta, Georgia for their annual National College Media Convention on Oct. 29.

Reese Keeling, TNS art director and myself got the chance to travel to Atlanta, Georgia for the biggest college media convention across the United States.

The fall National College Media Convention is a convention hosted by the Associated Collegiate Press and College Media Association to gather collegiate journalists, multimedia students and advisors. Hundreds of college students from across the country come to the convention to learn more about the industry.

The convention’s purpose is to invite industry experts to come and host panels to give students their expertise on their professions. The convention covers all aspects of college media from newspapers, broadcasting, social media, finding a story and much more. The convention is designed for students who want to pursue careers in journalism and media.

Our goal in going on this trip was to further advance our digital media skills, enhance our resumes, network with professionals in this industry and try to gain as much knowledge as possible. I can say we did exactly just that.

To hearing from writers at the New York Times, to learning about the art of the interview and how to get a highly competitive internship. The information we received on this trip will be used throughout our careers.

“I am very lucky to be given these types of opportunities to learn new things and be able to bring these things to teach our staff on the TNS,” Keeling said. “I learned so many new things that I’ll be able to carry with me in my future career and hopefully be able to teach kids in the future.”

Also, the city of Atlanta, Georgia was phenomenal. From the authentic food to the southern hospitality and the incredible tourism sites. Reese and I decided to go to the world’s second largest aquarium which happens to be in Atlanta. It was quite spectacular. My favorite exhibit was the cold water quest where the beluga whales captured my attention.

Overall, our trip was a success. We are very grateful to Tarleton State University for providing the opportunity for us to go on this trip. And thank you to Mr. Lewter for taking us on this trip.
