Another Purple school matchup took place tonight at Wisdom Gym where the Tarleton Texans logged another win over the Stephen F.Austin Lumberjacks 75-64.

Coaches play the people they trust, and tonight that trust was correctly put in Lue Willams, Jakorie Smith and Devon Barnes who all scored double-digit points in this win.

Willams was the leading scorer with 27 points and five steals to go with his five of six shooting from the 3-point line and eight field goals.

Barnes had a great performance as Tarleton’s starting point guard as he would bring the ball up the floor and dish out assists to his open teammates.

His demeanor was very calm and precise, and emotion would come out in making tough shots and easy misses, but the guard acted as a sense of consistency with his perfect free throw shooting.

Barnes encouraged his teammates and made timely shots when the Jacks would go on a run or give the Texans some trouble.

KiAndre Gaddy played heavy minutes in the victory being fouled often and fighting for loose balls. Gaddy ranks second in the nation for offensive rebounding came through and fought for six rebounds.

Coming off a game-tying shot to send ACU to overtime, Smith made his presence in this game as he does by making shots and keeping the defense guessing.

While Smith only made two 3’s in his 17 points they were much needed in chopping down the Lumberjacks.

With multiple ways to score Smith acted as a great three heat for the purple-and-white offense, while drawing the defense’s attention it allowed easier shots for his teammates.

At halftime, TSU was only ahead by one after starting to lose their lead but focused in the second half to defeat SFA with only three lead changes over the course of the game. The 11-point final deficient wasn’t completely true to the control Tarleton had over the game with five points for the Jacks coming off of quick inbounds plays to counteract the free throws that the Texans made in the last minutes.
