Phi Mu holds “Milkshakes for Miracles” for Philanthropy Week

Phi Mu at Tarleton State University held a “Milkshakes for Miracles” event on Apr 3, 2024 at Heritage Park in support for the Children’s Miracle Network.

Phi Mu is a women’s fraternity that helps support children in need in Fort Worth, Texas. During this Philanthropy Week, Phi Mu is holding numerous events to raise money, including Milkshakes for Miracles.

This event was held April 3 and started at 5:30 p.m., allowing students to come by to donate money for children and, in response, get a homemade milkshake of their choice. Phi Mu’s President, Cayla Rodriquez, shared about this event. 

“Our philanthropy is Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals,” said Rodriquez. “We specifically support the children in Fort Worth at Cooks Children’s Hospital. We do this [Philanthropy Week] once a semester, so this one’s called ‘Believe in Miracles.’”

Milkshakes for Miracles was not the only event this sorority was going to have. 

“Yesterday was a pickleball tournament, today is ‘Milkshakes for Miracles’ and tomorrow will be ‘Phi Mu City Limits’,” said Rodriquez. “Today, we’re going to be making milkshakes, and we also have ‘Pie a Phi’, ‘Dunk a Phi’ and flower bouquet making.”

Rodriquez goes on to explain more about the events happening the next day. 

“Tomorrow is Phi Mu City Limits. We’ll have two guys play from the Farmhouse Fraternity tomorrow and perform a little concert. We’ll also introduce our Cooks Rep. in between sets and will be selling drinks and snacks. We’ve also been having a raffle go on all week,” said Rodriquez. “We’re raffling off two baskets. One is a girls-themed basket and the other is a boys-themed basket. The girls basket is up to about $950 value and the boys is up to about $1,200 value.”

When asked about the end goal for Philanthropy Week, Rodriquez said she hopes for a great benefit for both the sorority and the children.

“My hope for this event is that the girls in my chapter have fun and enjoy themselves and then obviously, since it’s a philanthropy event, I do want to raise money for Cook’s,” said Rodriquez. “That’s the whole purpose of this event. Our goal that we have set for this week is $1,500, but I do want to surpass this amount. I also just really want to make a difference in the kids’ lives and support them.”

Phi Mu continued to have different events throughout the week in order to raise money and help support the children at Cook’s Children’s Hospital. Phi Mu invites all students and members of Stephenville to come support them at these events throughout the school year.
