Gabe Day is the 2024-2025 Tarleton student body president.
Day is a senior and four year member of Tarleton State Student Government Association (SGA). He has been a part of SGA every year of college, and is currently four months into his term as president.
“I am passionate about being president because Tarleton has given me the resources and relationships to be successful after college. One of my goals is to make sure others are using their resources on campus and are ready for careers too,” Day said.
Tarleton SGA is a representative governing body of the students for the students, which strives for campus improvement as a whole. It is a resource that students can use to voice their opinions on the university and changes they want to see made.
Day has held positions every year he has been at Tarleton; freshman rep council, judiciary justice his sophomore year and his junior year vice president of freshman representative council.
As president, Day is responsible for being the main contact between SGA and faculty, and listening to the student body so he can accurately bring their ideas up to the school.
Lauren Stacey is a senior and serves as student athletic chair for SGA.
“I don’t think a lot of people know that it’s students that want to help students. This organization is constantly looking at ways to improve things for students and I think that’s super cool,” Stacey said.
Alisa Sanchez is a two year member of SGA and is currently serving as a justice for SGA.
“SGA is a really cool organization that does a lot for the school. Almost all of Homecoming week is planned and hosted by SGA. Our Exec and team work so hard to make sure everything is perfect,” Sanchez said.
Day said that his experience as president so far has opened his eyes to the amount of work that university employees and administrators put into making events successful.
“A whole lot more work goes into everyday life on campus, as well as each and every event that happens at Tarleton. Months of planning and communicating,” Day said.
Planning and communication is a recipe for success.
“SGA is behind some really big changes that a lot of people don’t know about here on campus. Sometimes when things just “get better” the people behind it are SGA and the congressperson who wrote the bill that passed,” Sanchez said.
With the constant growth of Tarleton, Day shared that a goal of his administration is to grow.
“Our goal is to increase the number of people in SGA, and let people not in SGA know that they still have a voice,” Day said.
Spreading awareness to all Texans that their voice can be heard through voting to SGA meetings and sharing their thoughts.
