Adalee Updegraff: Student Photographer

Upperclassmen students pursuing their bachelor’s degrees may realize that graduation is approaching sooner than expected. 

Along with everything else on your graduation checklist, you may realize you also need to get your graduation photos taken soon. If so, Adalee Updegraff is the girl for the job.

Updegraff is a sophomore at Tarleton State University and has been running her photography business for about a year. 

Her interest for photography started from the age of seven when she realized how much she enjoyed editing. 

Updegraff’s father had a camera, and she decided to try out editing photos, leading to her love for the craft.

Updegraff’s favorite part of photography is the relationships she makes with her clients. 

“I love meeting people,” Updegraff said. “I love talking to them and getting to know their stories.”

When it comes to her photography style, Updegraff is all inclusive and loves trying techniques to suit her clients’ interests.

Her favorite place to shoot photos are in open landscapes or wide open fields, which she suggests are the best for pictures during her favorite shooting season of autumn. 

Although these areas are Updegraff’s favorite places to shoot, she is open to her clients’ requests. 

When pursuing a career in photography or running a business as she does, Updergraff suggests focusing on the marketing aspect of promoting your services.

“Marketing yourself is the biggest step,” Updegraff said. “Making social medias, posting as much as you can and offering free shoots just to boost your business. Word of mouth is also a big thing.”

Adalee first started her business by taking graduation photos for college and high school students. 

Her shoots now include graduation photos, family photos, individual photos and many more options.
